RESEARCH
High-Frequency Electron Spin Resonance Spectroscopy
The main focus of my doctoral studies is to study nanostructured thin magnetic films of single-molecule magnets (SMMs) by spectroscopic techniques. I plan to take advantage of a newly built electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer operating at terahertz frequencies and high magnetic field to investigate magnetic properties (g-factor, zero-field splitting parameters) of SMMs in both bulk and nanostructured form. Additional characterisation methods such as X-ray photoelectron (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) will be utilised as supplementary techniques. We are going to apply this approach to a wide variety of samples ranging from coordinated metal centres over magnetic and solid-state materials based on graphene/transition-metal dichalcogenides to biomolecules.
