The puzzle solver: EPR spectroscopy shines light into complex chemical reactions

Brazilian researcher Dr. Vinicius Santana, our junior researcher, collaborated with biologists and chemists to explain a bioluminescence mechanism. The findings were published in a highly acclaimed study in the Nature Catalysis magazine.

Vinicius Santana, a Brazilian scientist exploring the area right between physics and chemistry has been part of Magneto-Optical and THz Spectroscopy group since 2018.

Now he is working as a postdoc in Santa Barbara

Antonín Sojka has been a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Santa Barbara for almost a year. Even though he never wanted to even get a Ph.D. At CEITEC BUT, he worked on electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) within our research group.

Our PhD student Jan Dubský received JCMM Brno PhD Talent 2021 for his project on "Development of a 500 MHz DNP-NMR system". This scholarship helps starting PhD students with 300 000 CZK over 3 years.

Our PhD student Lucie Kotásková with her project on "Synthesis of molecular switches functionalised by stable radical substituents" was among the 25 awarded students who were selected out of 130 applicants in total for 2020 call. JCMM Brno PhD Talent helps starting PhD students with 300 000 CZK over 3 years.

Danubius Young Scientist Award 2020 goes to Dr. Oleksii Laguta - Congratulations!

The Danubius Award was created in 2011 by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education , Science and Research (BMBFW) and the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) with the intention to honor persons with extraordinary achievements in their scientific activity and output in relation to the Danube Region.

Brazilian researcher got to CEITEC BUT by chance

High expertise in the field of EPR has CEITEC BUT gained last year thanks to Vinicius Santana. Brazilian researcher was looking for a postdoc position in Europe and settled in Brno. He focuses on investigating magnetic materials using high-frequency EPR.
